Mt Baker in the Sunset

DSC_2034

The colors of the sunset reflecting on Mt Baker from Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend, WA. There was a lot of haze in the air … a mix of pollution and water vapor. That softens the image quite a bit. Not sure it necessarily detracts from the impact, tho.

This shot was March 20th at 7:18 PM from Fort Worden in Port Townsend, WA. I used a 300mm lens with a 2x teleconverter on a tripod with a shutter release.

I can’t decide if I like the B&W or the color better. The reflection of the sunset in the windows on the houses on Whidbey Island is nice and shows up a little better in the color. But the B&W seems sharper and less hazy. The adjustments were made in Lightroom and the B&W conversion was made of the final color image in Silver Effects Pro 2.

Mountians and Ships

Cascade Mountains and the ferry Kennewick by Allan J Jones Photograhpy
Cascade Mountains and the ferry Kennewick

Both images are taken from Fort Worden St Park in Port Townsend. The first image is of the WA State Ferry Kennewick on it’s way to Port Townsend from Coupeville. It’s a great boat ride…. especially when the weather is clear and you can see the Cascades in one direction and the Olympics in the other.

This is the USS Robert Johnson with Mt Baker in the background. The discontinuity between the natural and the industrial/military attracted me to taking this image. I don’t usually take photos of military vessals … don’t want to be accused of being a spy!

Just a note: The ship was named after a young black marine who was serving in Viet Nam when a grenade landed in his unit’s foxhole. He through himself on the grenade, saving the lives of the others in his unit.

Point Wilson Lighthouse

Point Wilson is on Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend, Washington. I was walking the beach and liked the snowy North Central Cascades behind the lighthouse. After our snowy weather, it was a nice change to be able to walk the beach in the sun.
