View from Point Madison

DSC_1315-Edit-Edit

Point Madison is in Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend, WA. I had raced down to the point to try and get a photo of a rainbow behind the lighthouse. It had pretty much faded away by the time I got there (see below). But when I started back up the hill, I was struck by the clouds and the sun shining off the wet streets.

Double Rainbow over PA Harbor

Double Rainbow over Port Angeles Harbor

I went to Port Angeles for some personal business … got there a little early and saw there was a full rainbow. I drove to the harbor, hoping it would stay … and it did. I was able to get this shot that shows the slight double above the primary. You can still see some of the raindrops on the lens. I was facing directly into the wind … and it was blowing pretty good. I removed a number of them, but this version shows some I missed. A surprise.

It was also a surprise to see the settings from the shot and realizing that I wasn’t paying attention or I would have dropped the ISO to get the f stop down to around f/8.

These photos were taken from Marrowstone Island, looking east across Puget Sound (Admiralty Inlet) toward Whidbey Island. The glow of the sunset was lighting up the clouds on the north end of the rainbow, while the south end of the rainbow was more complete. The top arc of the ‘bow was not visible.
