Foggy Winter Scene

Foggy Winter Scene

This was from the same day as the previous post (Sunny Winter Scene) and about an hour later. The clouds came up the mountain and everything was totally socked in. Not much to shoot except the outlines of trees. So, I shot outlines of trees. This is not a black and white image, by the way. There just isn’t any color making it through the fog.

Gray Jay

Gray Jay

We were eating lunch during a hike at Hurricane Hill in Olympic National Park. We immediately attracted a number of Gray Jays … aka camp robbers.

They are not shy at all, so I was able to get several nice photos of this little guy. I was especially happy with the details on the chest feathers.

Silver Snag

Silver Snag

The mountain forests have scattered among them an assortment of silver snags … trees have that died and remained standing. The wood bleaches out and the wood takes on a beautiful silver color that is difficult to show on a web post. This one is in the Hurricane Ridge area of Olympic National Park.

More Wildflowers

Yarrow
Indian Paintbrush
A clump of Mountain Bluebells

Another group of wildflowers from the Hurricane Ridge area of Olympic National Park. One of the advantages of the area is the road running up to over 5000′ … and the only high country access via motor vehicle in the park. That translates into a pretty crowded area.

Alaska Rein-Orchid

Alaska Rein-orchid

A visit to the high country of the Olympic National Park in the summer takes you to wildflower heaven. There are lots of very showy wildflowers, but there are also some that may not be showy, but are favorites, non the less. The non showy orchid here is one of my favorites in that category.

had a problem with the post schedule. Sorry this is a little late….

Bailey Range from the East

Bailey Range from the East

This is the east side of the Bailey Range in Olympic National Park from the Hurricane Hill road.

There is an off-trail route along the other side. I have tried to hike that trail several times, but always got rained out … or ran out of time after searching for the route.
