Rhody Leaves

The Mt Walker trail has areas where the trail goes through fairly thick clumps of wild Rhododendrons. I liked the backlighting showing the leaf veins.

Mt Baker from Mt Walker

Mt Baker from Mt Walker

You can drive a Forest Service road from US 101 to the top of Mt Walker (~2730′) which is on the northeast corner of the Olympics, just south of Quilcene. There are two viewpoints … one on the north and one on the south. This is the view from the north viewpoint looking across Puget Sound to Mt Baker.

Anderson Lake

Anderson Lake

Anderson Lake is a State Park on the Quimper Peninsula south of Port Townsend. During the winter the park is closed, but you can park at the gate and hike the trails. We took advantage of a break in the moving in chores and went for a walk in our new neighborhood. Very pleasant and the weather cleared and gave us some dramatic views.

Port Townsend Mill and the Olympics

Port Townsend Paper Mill and the Olympic Mountains by Allan J JonesThis is looking southwest from the end of the downtown area of Port Townsend, looking towards the Port Townsend Paper Company mill and the Northeast corner of the Olympic Mountains. The steam from the mill and the cloud layer low on the mountains were both backlit and I was struck by the repeating horizontal lines. I also liked the way the distant foreground range has a set of cell phone towers and antennas … which repeat the vertical lines of the stacks and sailboat masts. (a little hard to see that in the smaller web version)

Solar Arc – Wispy Clouds and Capitol Lake

Solar Arc – Wispy Clouds and Capitol Lake

This was one of my regular walks around Capitol Lake in Olympia, WA … and the sky presented one of its more spectacular displays. I was amazed and really happy I was carrying my camera. Meanwhile, the majority of the walkers were totally oblivious to the scene.

Note: I have been in the process of relocating to Port Townsend … a hundred miles north of Olympia. It has been a very time consuming process. It has taken a toll on my ability to spend time with the camera. As a result, I have gone into the library to find some golden oldies to share. This one is from February 2016.
